Who I Am.    What I Do.

I've worked as a journalist and reporter in the Chicago area for the past 20 years (that's a long time). I started out working for a wire service (anyone remember those?), collecting lottery numbers from around the counrty (yes, really) and writing broadcast copy and news-stories for an international newswire. Before landing on the overnight shift, I moved to The Bond Buyer, a daily newspaper covering the municipal finance industry (Yes, there is such a thing.) I eventually found my calling as a reporter for Adweek Magazine, where I spent 10 years covering some of the world's best-known advertising agencies (Leo Burnett, Fallon Worldwide, DDB) and global companies (McDonald's, Kellogg, Procter & Gamble, General Mills, General Motors and pretty much every fast-food company you can name). I broke news covering all of these companies and their marketing, competing with the likes of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal and Advertising Age for scoops and exclusive news. After a 10 year career there, I've been on my own as a freelance journalist, writer and "content creator" (the new term du jour), writing for magazines, websites, corporations and not-for-profits.

I've written news alerts for wire services, short copy for web sites, radio scripts, daily news, long-form features (on a variety of topics), newsletters (print and e-mail) and blog items on some of the most technical subjects in marketing. I'm a specialist in cutting through the jargon to get at the real essence of a story and making information clear, compelling and understandable for a general audience.
